Story:

The story begins i na small Vermont town called Stone Ridge where the Gray Man makes his ominous appearance. Meanwhile, Dr. Fate is seen in Massechusetts just before he senses the Gray Man and heads off to find him. Fate arrives to find the Gray Man ranting about his dismal existence and claiming that he is now the one "in control." He then explains how he came to be this way:
Long ago, he was a man of knowledge seeking the secrets of the universe. He began to be quite successful and, as he nearly reached his goal, he was stopped by the Lords of Order, who transformed him into the Gray Man, unable to sleep or dream. His job was then to collect the "dream-essence" from the dead and return in to Order's Realm.
He then isues his threat and cause to rob all mankind of the ability to dream, effectively transforming all men into Gray Men.
Meanwhile, the tensions in the league seemingly peak when the continuous cronfrontations between Guy Gardner and his fellow members, especially Batman, lead Batman to coolly knock him out. This action is welcome by some members who are fed up with Guy and condemned by others, especially Captain Marvel. who consider it worse to sink to Guy's level in order to deal with him.
The League eventually gets the call to head to Stone Ridge, Captain Marvel leaving first to assess the situation before the team arrives. They arrive to find the Creeper alredy there and the town transformed completely into something unknown.
